Why Vietnam

A deliberate, not default, choice among abroad-MBBS destinations

Vietnam is compared here against Russia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan — the countries most often cross-shopped by Indian families making this decision in 2026.

Government & private options, side by side

Two of the seven partner universities are public institutions — a distinction that matters for fee stability and is rare among abroad-MBBS destinations most Indian families consider.

Clinical exposure from Year 1

Hospital-based learning begins in the first year at most partner universities, rather than being delayed to the final years as at many other overseas medical schools.

A four-hour flight, not a continent away

Direct and one-stop connections from major Indian cities keep travel time and cost manageable for parents visiting or students flying home on breaks.

An established Indian student base

With 1,000+ Indian students already enrolled across the network, incoming students join existing peer groups, hostel arrangements and informal support systems — not a cold start.

Admission Process

How admission actually works, start to finish

  1. 1

    Free Counselling & University Shortlisting

A one-on-one session to review the student's Class 12 marks, budget, and NEET status, and shortlist universities that fit their profile.

  2. 2

    Document Preparation & Registration

Documents are collected, verified, and submitted along with the initial registration fee to the chosen university.

  3. 3

    Offer / Invitation Letter

The university's admission office reviews the application and issues an official invitation letter, typically within 7–15 working days.

  4. 4

    Fee Payment & Admission Confirmation

On receipt of the invitation letter, the first-year tuition and hostel fee are paid to confirm the seat.

Recognition & Compliance

Where these universities stand with NMC, WHO and MOET

NMC

Since 2021 the NMC does not pre-approve individual foreign universities; it issues the Foreign Medical Graduate Regulations (FMGR 2021) as eligibility criteria. All seven partner universities are positioned to satisfy these criteria — read the detail on each university's page.

WHO

All seven universities are listed in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), searchable directly at search.wdoms.org.

ECFMG

Graduates who wish to pursue the US pathway can pursue ECFMG certification separately; Phan Chau Trinh University holds ECFMG recognition secured in 2024.

Common Questions

Frequently asked, answered plainly

Is MBBS from Vietnam valid to practise medicine in India?

Since 2021, the National Medical Commission (NMC) does not pre-approve individual foreign universities. Instead it issues the Foreign Medical Graduate Regulations (FMGR 2021), a set of eligibility criteria a foreign degree must satisfy. All seven partner universities on this site are listed in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and recognised by Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), and are positioned to satisfy FMGR 2021 requirements. Graduates must still qualify India's NExT exam to obtain a licence to practise, exactly as any other foreign medical graduate must.

Do I need to qualify NEET before applying?

For six of the seven partner universities, NEET is not required for admission — it becomes relevant only later, when the graduate needs to sit India's NExT/FMGE licensing exam. Dai Nam University is the one exception on this list: it requires a valid NEET qualifying score as a mandatory admission criterion.

What is the total cost of studying MBBS in Vietnam?

The published 2026 six-year tuition totals across the seven partner universities range from $24,606 at Dai Nam University to $39,350 at the University of Health Sciences, VNU-HCM. Hostel and one-time visa, flight, insurance and documentation costs are separate and should be confirmed in an itemised estimate before payment.

Is it safe for my child to study in Vietnam?

Vietnam is consistently rated among the safer countries for international students compared with the more common MBBS-abroad destinations, with low violent crime rates and large, established Indian student communities on partner campuses. As with any move abroad, standard precautions apply, and admissions counsellors can put parents in touch with current students and hostel wardens before the student departs.

Is the medium of instruction really English throughout?

Yes. All seven partner universities teach the MBBS programme entirely in English, with a short introductory Vietnamese-language module in the first year to support day-to-day life and basic patient communication during clinical postings.

When does the admission cycle open, and is there an entrance exam?

Applications for the September intake typically open in March–April each year. Most partner universities admit directly on Class 12 marks with no separate entrance test; Dai Nam University additionally requires a NEET qualifying score.
