The short answer is that scholarships for MBBS in Vietnam are university-specific, limited by the current intake notice and often structured as tuition support rather than a full-cost award. For 2026, Dong A University's official international Doctor of Medicine announcement is a concrete example: it lists USD 500 scholarship support per student per year, reducing stated net tuition from USD 5,000 to USD 4,500 per year. That is useful evidence, but it is not proof that every Vietnam university offers the same arrangement.

What a Vietnam MBBS scholarship may mean
The word scholarship can describe several different arrangements:

Dong A University's 23 June 2026 international Doctor of Medicine announcement describes a six-year General Medicine programme delivered in English. It lists annual tuition of USD 5,000, scholarship support of USD 500 per student per year and net tuition payable of USD 4,500 per year. The notice calculates net six-year tuition of USD 27,000 and shows semester payments of USD 2,250 after the stated support.
The responsible interpretation is narrow: this is the fee structure in that specific 2026 international notice. It does not establish that every applicant will receive an additional award, that hostel is included, or that the amount will continue if the student repeats, defers or changes the programme. Ask Dong A to place the following in the student's written admission documents:
- the gross tuition and net tuition for each semester;
- whether the USD 500 support applies to every one of the six years;
- any academic, attendance, conduct or payment conditions;
- what happens after a failed subject, repeat semester or approved leave;
- whether the support is lost if the student changes intake;
- whether the fee is fixed in USD or converted to Vietnamese dong;
- hostel, insurance, visa, residence, books, examination and clinical charges.
The same announcement says applications are accepted until 30 December each year, subject to the university's process. An application deadline is not a scholarship deadline unless the notice says so.
Do not confuse tuition support with total affordability
A scholarship can reduce the largest line in a budget while leaving other costs unchanged. Build two columns: published net tuition and total cost still to budget.
The second column may include:
- hostel deposit, room fees, utilities, meals and laundry;
- visa or residence formalities, medical checks and insurance;
- flights, airport transfer and travel to India during holidays;
- books, laptop, instruments, uniform and examination charges;
- translation, certification, consular legalisation and courier costs;
- food, local transport, phone, personal items and an emergency reserve.
Read the site's hostel and student-life guide before accepting a net tuition figure as an all-in price. A discount is valuable only if the remaining budget is realistic for six years.
Check eligibility separately from scholarship selection
For Indian applicants, the admission screen may include Class 12 subjects, marks, age, English-medium evidence, medical fitness, document authentication and sometimes NEET. The admission process explains the normal sequence, but the exact university notice controls the intake decision.
For example, Dong A's 2026 notice asks for an equivalent foreign upper-secondary qualification, one of several science subject combinations, at least 65% of the maximum possible score, English evidence or an assessment, and an interview. It also says foreign documents must be authenticated, legalised where required and accompanied by certified Vietnamese translations. A student can be academically eligible while still needing to complete the document route before the scholarship or admission is finalised.
Ask admissions to answer these questions in one email:
- Is the student eligible for the programme based on the submitted Class 12 records?
- Is NEET an admission condition for this exact programme and intake?
- Is the scholarship automatic, competitive or subject to a separate application?
- Does an English-medium certificate meet the requirement?
- Which documents require authentication, legalisation and Vietnamese translation?
- Does the scholarship appear on the official invoice?
Verify the document trail before paying
Before sending money, keep the offer letter, scholarship notice, fee invoice and payment instructions together. The legal university name, programme title, intake and student name should match across documents. The beneficiary should match the university or an officially identified payment route. Verify bank details through a contact method published by the university, not only through the person who forwarded the offer.
The invoice should say whether the scholarship is applied before or after taxes, bank charges, deposits or other fees. It should also explain refund or deferral treatment. A discount that disappears after a visa refusal can affect the family's risk even when the headline tuition looks attractive.
Check India-side recognition requirements independently

A scholarship verification checklist
Do not mark the scholarship as confirmed until the family can answer yes to these points:
- Is the award issued by the university or clearly identified as an authorised arrangement?
- Does the written offer show gross fee, support, net fee and duration?
- Are renewal, repeat-year, deferral and withdrawal rules stated?
- Are hostel and one-time charges excluded or itemised?
- Does the invoice carry the same student, programme and intake details?
- Has the beneficiary been verified through an official university channel?
- Have WDOMS, host-country information and current NMC material been checked?
- Are refund and visa-related terms attached to the offer?
